New ionic liquid-based polyoxadiazole electrolytes for hydrogen middle- and high-temperature fuel cells

New polyoxadiazole-based supported ionic liquid membranes were designed and elaborated for the first time to be used as a middle- high-temperature polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell application. The proposed molecular design combined hydroxyl-functionalized sulfonated polyoxadiazole, hydrophilic polyvinylpyrrolidone specific protic liquid, thus allowing elaboration of with remarkable physical-chemical characteristics. It is found that fine tuning properties possible by varying ratio polyoxadiazole polyvinylpyrrolidone. obtained reveal high thermal stability in dynamic static modes (up 350 °C), good oxidative stability, sufficient mechanical (Young's modulus 0.3–21.4 MPa elongation at break from 6 174%), degree impregnation 297%), stable relatively conductivity 1.3 mS∙cm−1) wide temperature range (from 40 120 °С) under dry conditions.
